New towels and fresh towels!

This post was prompted by a friends' mom's & my moms' friends' facebook post about being excited to have clothes off the line- so jealous! Clothes line dried clothes are truly a simple pleasure. I don't know what it is- the fresh smell, how the clothes are nice and crisp or even the environmental benefits, but clothes lined dry towels are so nice!

Another towel simple pleasure? New towels! I came across this posting Solid Colour Bath Towels, which suggests using towels as a nice way to add colour to your bathroom. It is particularly nice when you live an apartment and can't paint, it's also a nice way to feel grown up and get a set of matching towels! The best places I find to get towels (locally) are Superstore, Winners, & Wal-Mart.

Find more apartment ideas and inspiration at Apartment Therapy! So freshen up your bathroom with some new inspirations- spring is a great time to do it when you're doing your spring cleaning :)

Happy Toweling (yes I made that up...and yes you can use it)

Google Reader

My life just got easier, because of Google Reader! (wait, did I just rhyme and kind of make a poem?) Anyways, I was tipped off about Google Reader from my roomie (her blog: A Touch of Sound).

For those of you who already knew about this and used it: why didn't you share your secret!?!? For those that don't, onward ho:

Basically, I check about 3,000 websites and blogs a day. Ok so not 3,000 but sometimes it can be overwhelming to check everything and sometimes you waste time typing in the addresses or visiting a site that hasn't been updated since your last visit. Simply with your google account, you click on "more" on the Google Home page and then on "Reader". You add subscriptions that you want to know about (i.e. type in the web address of the website or blog that you follow) and it will add it to your list! Anytime there is an update, you can set your settings to have a number beside the title and bold so that you know how many updates there are since your last visit- then you decide if you want to check it, or save for later.

It's awesome because you can save a lot of time, organize your online frenzy's and keep track of what you read! It helps you keep control if you like to look at a lot of different sites! What's also awesome is that it keeps everything in ABC and you can have your mix of interests all waiting for you (i.e. feeling smart or newsy and feel like thinking analytically? Check CBC or Al Jazeera! Feeling like making something? What does Design Sponge or Noodles and Spice have on the go? Feeling tired, dumb and need something brainless that doesn't involve your drama and requires little effort? Check out Perez Hilton or fmylife!

All of the updates show up on the right hand side, or you can click on each site and it will show you the pictures and posts.
So needless to say, google is awesome and taking over the world, and rightfully so! Anyways,

Swiffer Duster

No I do not secretly work for Swiffer or Procter & Gamble, I just seriously love this small investment I have made. I feel old after I use it because all I can think of is "When I was young we had to dust everything by hand!" But seriously, great invention- great for allergies, easy to use and a super simple pleasure! Investing in one is highly recommended!

Disclaimer: no I do not love dusting with it that much that I will come to your house and dust.

Oh and btw- I got a pink one which obviously makes it more awesome. Just sayin.

Rubber boots

I love my rubber boots! Honestly one of the best investments I have ever made. I actually now own two pairs, one cute pair for the rain (pink, purple and blue flowers) and one black pair for the winter.

My dear ugly black boots, what they lack in style they make up in practicality and comfort. Why you ask? They're fleece lined! 10000000 points awarded to the individual who's idea it was to make fleece lined rubber boots. East coast snow-covered winters are no basis for rain to discriminate- rain, snow, sleet, ice- common combos here in Atlantic Canada which makes my rubber boots (cute and practical ones) one of my life's simple pleasure!

P.S. The photo is my attempt at humor in showing "fleece lined" rubber boots......bc it's a sheep...get it...? lol.......

4 your KD

Most people I know love Kraft Dinner ( I will not single out my friend who doesn't, you know who you are). For many it's a staple (good ol KD in a hot pot in your dorm room). If I were given the chance to pick my most favorite meal it would be KD & hotdogs (with ketchup of course)- don't knock it til you try it- I love it!

Not only do I love it, but my grand parents love it too and fully support my habit. My darling grand parents live in New Brunswick and always make sure I have a full stock of KD in my cupboard. Distance is no obstacle to keeping my stock of KD healthy and well maintained. I get phone calls when the weekly flyers come out, letting me know where the sales are (I don't dare ever purchase it at full price), and I even get passed along the bonus pack that was picked up for me and delivered on the next trip up.

I'm frequently questioned by them how much I have left, and if i'm getting low which is usually accompanied by the scoop on the latest sale.

Above is a picture that may seem quite random to some, but to me, it's quite normal and also brings a smile.

This is something I received in the mail from my grandparents, along with no note except the one on the post-it stuck to $10 bill: "4 your KD". This came after I was informed of a sale and to prepare myself for the next.

I took a picture of it when I received it (almost two years ago now) because it brings a smile to my face even though it's something as simple as good ol KD. KD is a simple pleasure in itself, but this note has been one of my simple pleasures

New socks

Such a small, cheap and easy way to reward yourself. Having a bad day, having a good day but want to make it better? Crack open a new package of socks!

The feeling isn't the same even after just one wash- has to be brand new fresh ones. I think a good top prize for a contest would be a one year supply of new socks- who wouldn't want this?!

Next time you're out and about, considering doing yourself a huge, and yet so very simple favour: new socks.

Feel extra passionate about new socks? Join this online group where you can read stories of other sock lovers or tell your own! (Yes it exists lol).

Check it out, happy walking!

Found: Money!

Today I decided to clean out my closet and I experienced a life's simple pleasure: finding money etc. in pockets of stuff you haven't worn in awhile. Be it a loonie, toonie or even a bill- it is a great feeling. You can't do it on purpose- you have to let it happen, much like a slow clap- has to happen organically.

Related to this I love when you pull out what you think is just a receipt from your pocket and snuggled up to it is a crisp, clean bill. Again, great feeling.

I assure you that re-finding money that was yours and you assumed spent and long gone is in fact in your closet-feel free to check!

What did I find today to inspire this blog you may ask? Nada. Just a badminton shuttle- no money. But then I thought how I wish it were money, not the most random object I could probably have hiding in my closet.

So simple yet so rewarding and can seriously make your day!

Lemon water

Lemon water.

So so so so so very simple yet to delightful! I'm not a huge water guzzler- although I wish I was. So good for you, very refreshing and takes minimal effort. Another refreshing twist is cucumber water- very different and inexpensive way to reinvent something undoubtedly boring and blase.

On a related note, here an article about choosing ripe fruit at the grocery store (There's nothing worse than a rock hard avocado when you need to make guacamole asap :)! )

Pucker up and cheers :)

Life's simple pleasures

So, sometimes life is not that great. It's not fair, why me, why not him, how come her etc. Well although I wouldn't label myself as an eternal optimist, I do find that there are simple pleasures in life. Little tiny things, somewhat meaningless but make me happy none the less. So I'm going to start a category of life's simple pleasures as they happen- then you can have these little moments to appreciate- or comment on mine with some of your own- who wouldn't be open to hearing more simple pleasures?

Life's simple pleasure #1
Refreshing your ipod.I tend to be somehwat lazy, but if I revamp my ipod I could walk around the entire HRM (battery pending). I don't know what it is but I'm sure that there are scientists out there that study the effect that this has on motivation/physical exercise.

Simple pleasure-appreciate it!
